The latest, most exciting new kizomba group has just emerged from the North East announcing a taster day on November 5th!
Free beginners workshop followed by two improvers lessons for just £6 (£5 NUS)! What a bargain!
From 1pm until 4pm at Barney and Jude’s in Sandyford, Newcastle upon Tyne (NE2 1PN), this taster day will give you an idea of what Kizomba is, the basic steps and the fundamentals on this, the most sensual of dances, kizomba.

It’s coming up to that time of the year again when the nation descends upon Teesside for the third annual Latin Dance Festival in association with The Latin Connection and Teesside University Student Union.

Runner up UK Special Event in the Salsa Central Awards, 2010, Teesside Festival III promises to be an absolutely amazing gig this year! Join some of the best regional and international stars in a huge line up, in workshops and in debut performances, culminating in an absolutely mega party until early in the morning!

SalSeduce and Tiger Tiger

A new year brings a great refresh to our Tuesday nights, the immensely popular SalSeduce has moved from Bar Beyond (back) to Tiger Tiger! Yes that’s right, new (old) venue, bigger floor, and dancing until 11:30! SalSeduce is growing without signs of stopping and YOU should be part of it!

Starting from January 11th I’ll be making regular appearances on Tuesday nights to keep the floor pumping, the sweat flowing and you guys dancing. Was talking to a good friend a few days ago when she mentioned she’d been listening to Rihanna’s “Te Amo”, adding that she thought it’d make a good kizomba track. Well the fingers got working & a few hours later this little remix had made it’s way onto her hard drive.

Teesside festival, mk. II.

Teesside Latin Dance Festival number 2…what can I say, absolute blast. The classes were fantastic, the people sublime, but the evening party was just incredible! So great to see so many people out from all over the UK dancing to some awesome tunes throughout the night.

To everyone that went: Hope you enjoyed yourselves! The next one is going to be even bigger and better than the last two put together, all thanks to you!

To everyone that missed out: Make sure to book your tickets for the next one early! You seriously don’t want to miss it again!

Thanks to all promoters, artists, DJs, organisers, performers and venue staff that worked behind the scenes, and big thanks to everyone that turned up – it was magnificent.

What are your favourites?

So there I was the other day, thinking about this very topic – what are my favourite tracks? It’s a really tough decision to make as there are a number of different perspectives I could choose from and literally hundreds of different tunes! For instance there are those that I love as a DJ because they get people moving, similarly there are tracks that I love to dance to as they just make you want to dance, but there are also tracks I just love to relax and listen to.

I still don’t really know my favourite tracks, but seeing as this is my DJ site I thought I’d list 10 tracks that will nearly always get people dancing whenever I play them. What are your favourite tracks that you love hearing when on the dance floor? What gets you moving??

In no particular order…

Hector Lavoe – La Murga (feat. Willie Colon)
Absolute classic of a tune. Who can resist those iconic trumpets??
Sexappeal – Amor Amor
Very powerful track
Africando – Aicha
I defy anyone to not dance when this one’s playing!
Orquesta 33 – La Pantera Rosa
There’s something about remixing classic tunes that makes them brilliant
Euro Cuban Project – Never Leave You
This is a magnificent track to do la rueda to, and it never disappoints!
Alex Wilson – Show Me
Alex Wilson is a true genius. Show Me is a truly energising tune.
Aventura – El Desprecio
There’s something about the intro to this song that just builds passion inside you. Perfect for a bachata track, really!
Sarah Vaughan – Whatever Lola Wants (Gotan Project Remix)
I’ve had more people ask me about this track than any other – slowish but full of punctuated marks making for some fantastic opportunities.
Marc Anthony – I Need To Know
Not often you get people Cha Cha’ing in Newcastle, but when they do…!
Caló Pascoal – Titiriti
I needed to include at least one Kizomba in this list seeing as we give it a bash no matter the tune – this is just one of my favourites!

So there we have it. There are literally hundreds of tracks that are right up there but these were among the more recognisable. What do you love listening to on the dance floor?

Moving to Newcastle in 2006 to start my University career, I was pulled into salsa by a couple of my new found friends; I started salsa’ing in 2007, performed in London in 2008 and started DJing for salsa events in September 2009. I haven’t stopped dancing since!

My huge passion for latin music means that not only do I love what I do, but I also love watching other people enjoy the music I play. With no bias to a particular genre I give the crowd what they want, whether that’s a particular kind of salsa, bachata, kizomba, reggaeton, zouk, cha cha, or merengue, you’re guaranteed to see as much dancing time as possible.

I’m looking forward to meeting many new salsa lovers over the next couple of years as I expand my services across the country.
